Nigeria is often referred to as the “Giant of Africa”, due to its large population and economy. With approximately 174 million inhabitants, one in four Africans is a Nigerian. Regarding religion, Nigeria is roughly divided in half between Christians, who live mostly in the southern and central parts of the country, and Muslims, concentrated mostly in the northern and southwestern regions. Constant friction between ethnic groups, religious rivalry, and territorial disputes, has created an extremely risky environment for Christians in some regions. The terrorist activity of Boko Haram has become world known for its violence and cruelty. Jonas Soto interviews His Grace Bishop Stephen Mamza, from the diocese of Yola.
